GP La Bañeza 2023
Con el espíritu de antaño y la emoción de siempre, la 62º edición del GP de La Bañeza (León-España) conserva el encanto de las antiguas carreras de motos clásicas, habiendo llegado a puntuar en el Trofeo Nacional Senior entre 1977 y 1985.
Un emblemático encuentro que ha visto alzarse campeones a pilotos que más tarde lo serían a nivel mundial, como Ángel Nieto, quien obtuvo en este Gran Premio su primera victoria sobre una Derbi, y que llegó a afirmar que ‘para ser campeón del mundo, había que correr antes en La Bañeza’.
Esta ciudad es, desde hace más de medio siglo, el último vestigio en España que atesora un Gran Premio de motociclismo que se desarrolla íntegramente en circuito urbano. Una carrera apasionante cuyo interés hace triplicar la población de la localidad durante dos días y que está protagonizada por motos clásicas de 2T y 4T , GP125/Moto3 y EuroTwins que desprenden auténtico y nostálgico espíritu motero, sólo comparable al Tourist Trophy de la Isla de Man.
Esta carrera, única e independiente no forma parte ni puntúa en otros campeonatos de clásicas de España, pero es imbatible en cuanto a prestigio y testigo de duelos memorables. Tanto, que todo el que asiste a él, dice que siempre volverá.
48 horas ininterrumpidas en las que la ciudad se convierte en un circuito de velocidad sobre el que de nuevo este año se dirigirá la mirada de más de 60.000 aficionados al motociclismo los días 5 y 6 de agosto.
INICIOS
En 1949 nacía el Mundial de Velocidad. En aquel momento no existían circuitos permanentes en España y muy escasamente en el mundo. En pueblos y ciudades de la geografía hispana empezaron a organizarse carreras. Así sucedió en La Bañeza, donde la humildad de sus gentes y la realidad rural del lugar no impidieron a los bañezanos soñar con tener su propio circuito de velocidad. Al poco tiempo de la fecha de aquel primer mundial, ya lograron hacerlo realidad. Lo montaron en sus calles.
La primera edición del Circuito Motorista Bañezano tuvo lugar en 1952 y se ha mantenido hasta hoy. Hoy, sí, hoy. Hoy cuando en el mundo existen circuitos permanentes hasta en medio de un desierto, los bañezanos siguen haciendo sus carreras por las calles de su “pueblo”. Un auténtico milagro que hoy en día sigue vivo y se repite cada año, porque La Bañeza ama profundamente el motociclismo.

In the spirit of past times and with as much excitement as ever, the 62th edition of the La Bañeza GP (Leon-España), still maintains the charm of the old classic motorcycle races and in the years between 1977 and 1985 counted towards qualifying for the National Senior Trophy.
An emblematic encounter that has witnessed champions become pilots who later would be so at a world level, as for example Angel Nieto, who obtained his first victory with a Derbi, and who actually said that “to be a world champion, one must race before in La Bañeza”.
This city is, since half a century ago, the last vestige in Spain that has a Grand Prix of motorcycle racing which is entirely held on an urban circuit. A thrilling race which triples the local population during two days and in which classic motorcycles of 2T and 4T , GP125 / Moto3 and EuroTwins participate, all this emitting an authentic and nostalgic motorcycling spirit, only comparable with the Tourist Trophy of the Isle of Man.
This unique and independent race doesn´t rate for other Classic championships in Spain, but it is unbeatable duels. This is so, that everybody who attends, ends up saying, they will come back.
48 non stop hours during which the city becomes a motorcycling speed circuit, once more this year, over 60.000 motorcycling fans will focus their attention on the 5th and 6th of the August.
BEGINNINGS
In 1949 the World Speed Championship began. At that time there weren´t any permanent circuits in Spain and hardly any in the world. Races began to be organized in towns and cities all over the Hispanic geography.
This is what happened in La Bañeza, where the humility of the people and the rural reality of the place was not an inconvenience for the people from La Bañeza to dream with having their own motor racing circuit. Shortly after the first World Speed Championship, they managed to make their dream come true. They made the circuit in their streets.
The first edition of the Motor circuit in La Bañeza took place in 1952 and it has continued up to now. Today, yes, today. Today when there are permanent race circuits all around the world, even in the middle of a desert, the people from La Bañeza continue celebrating motorcycling races in the streets of their “town”. An authentic miracle which is still alive now a days and is repeated every year, because La Bañeza deeply loves motorcycling.
